Hi, I’m Jim

I’ve spent my career focused on one major goal:
Helping leaders and companies grow and succeed by finding their purpose and activating it.
AS PROCTER & GAMBLE’S GLOBAL CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER,
I had the privilege of helping some of the world’s most iconic brands thrive by putting an inspiring, action-oriented purpose at the center. That experience shaped not only my career but also my worldview — and inspired me to write Grow, a book about how ideals and purpose drive extraordinary business results.
since then,
I’ve partnered with remarkable leaders and organizations who share my belief that identifying and staying true to a brand’s WHY drives long-term consumer trial & loyalty. Along that journey I noticed so many of our big clients working with startups, with uneven results. So I was curious why–and authored Unleashing the Innovators, a playbook for how large companies can succeed by partnering with startups to stay agile, human, and relevant.

THESE DAYS,
I’m fortunate to focus on what I love most. I am at a time in my life where many people think it's time to downshift, or even retire. I feel very differently about this phase of my life. Today, folks are searching for people they can trust, people who engender a ”safe place” to talk, listen, ideate.
To help them build confidence in what they must do.
That is what I dedicate my time to-- having deep conversations with brand-building leaders, leading global leadership programs, and teaching as an adjunct professor.

John Pepper
John welcomed me as a mentee early in my career and stood by me during some of its most pivotal moments. His belief in me gave me confidence when I needed it most. More than that, he has been a role model of what it means to lead — with integrity, kindness, and love. Watching how John lives his life, both professionally and personally, has deeply shaped how I aspire to show up in the world.

Dr. Robert J. Stengel
Robert started out as my sidekick little brother and grew into one of my dearest friends. His sense of humor and his ability to find joy in the simple rhythms of everyday life were gifts he shared with everyone around him. I am especially inspired by how he faced the disease that ultimately took his life — with grace, strength, and love. The amazing family he left behind keeps his spirit alive every day, and I am so proud of the legacy he created.

Kathleen Stengel
Kathleen has been my anchor, my partner, and my greatest source of love for more than four decades. Her advice, support, and wisdom have guided me through every season of life. I have always admired her fierce advocacy for those who are too often overlooked, as well as her endless curiosity and appetite for learning — and hobbies! Together, we have built a life filled with shared experiences, surrounded by our children and now our granddaughters, who continue to fill our days with joy.
It's All In the State of Mind
If you think that you dare not, you don't,
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It's almost certain you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out in the world you'll find
Success begins with a fellow's will—
It's all in the state of mind.
Full many a race is lost
ere even a step is run,
And many a coward falls
ere even his work's begun,
Think big, and your deeds will grow;
Think small, and you'll fall behind;
Think that you can, and you will—
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are out-classed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise;
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You ever can win a prize,
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.
brands
I am always inspired by brands that continue to tell a consistent story in a new way, staying true to their purpose, while remaining relevant and interesting. Here are a few that inspire me today.
